Honoring our Volunteers

Cheryl currently serves as President of the Walt Disney PTA, but her dedication to the Disney and Burbank community is years in the making. She has served in various positions on the executive board including, membership, communications chair, vice president and more. But no matter her title or her official role at the moment, Cheryl has been an integral part of the Disney community and involved in almost every activity for the last six years. From the annual Dia de los Muertos celebration, to the book fair and even the dreaded storage bin fiasco that came as a result of the Disney Elementary construction, she works with dignity and integrity and always tries to get the kids involved. Her dedication doesn’t end with Disney; the nominations submitted on her behalf noted her work with her daughter’s softball and basketball teams. Cheryl is an incredibly valued volunteer and dear friend. 

Heather Tyler is not only an incredibly dedicated volunteer at Disney Elementary, but she is a light in any room she enters. Her smile and her dedication are noticed far beyond her work on the PTA as her own work colleagues took the time to submit an HSA nomination on her behalf, citing her dedication to causes far beyond her work with Disney Elementary. She also runs a nonprofit that distributes hundreds of backpacks to local students and a toy drive around the holidays. Her work to motivate PTA volunteers and make participation fun has been incredibly meaningful in motivating volunteers especially as Disney navigated the pandemic. She is also vigilant to speak for those who don’t have a voice and works to empower those who feel powerless. Heather has the biggest heart and shares it with anyone who needs a hug or a pick-me-up. 

Mari is a fifth grade parent at Disney Elementary and has given years of consistent dedication to the school and Disney community, especially at onsite events. This year, as Disney Elementary worked to bring one of its signature events–Dia de los Muertos–back to its pre-pandemic glory, Mari was integral to its success. Her creativity and ingenuity helped create the magical “Land of the Dead” through décor and games that thrilled the students. She is a crafter extraordinaire and whether asked to create Mr. Cloud or a Sugar Skull toss, she never disappoints. Her input and organizational contributions will benefit the planning of future Dias, and other events, for years to come. Mari also serves on the DEI committee and as a room rep; she is always willing to help with a smile. Mari puts so much thought and effort into everything she does and her time with Disney has been treasured.
